Madrid is a top destination for many european travelers. It’s a clean and a well renovated city. You can easily realize that the government spends a fair amount of money on renovation. You’ll find the building to be in their old style of architecture although looking clean and new.
Although Madrid is not my favorite city in Spain, it’s absolutely worth the visit.

Tip 1: If you’re to choose one single city to visit in Spain I would recommend you to head down to the south and visit Seville or to Catalunya to visit Barcelona.

One of the most fascinating things about Madrid is the public transportation. I believe it’s one of the best in Europe along side Paris and London and also one of the cheapest I have seen. The metro covers the whole city and it’s the fastest way to get around. The buses are obviously slower but you’ll get free Wi-Fi on all buses which is not likely to be found, even in Europe!

Tip 2:If you’re going to move around with the Metro try getting the 10 travel tickets. You can share them with other people, meaning you don’t need to get a card for each of you, and it will cost you around 10 euros.

Madrid airport (Barajas) is around 15 Km from the city center. You can either take the bus or metro for 2€ or you can pay around 28€ for a taxi.

If you’re planning to stay in Madrid for only a few days and you want to make the most out of it, try reserving a hotel in the center, somewhere near Plaza de Sol. Almost 80% of the main attractions will be at your walking distance and you’ll find the neighborhood to be full of life at night. However depending on where your hotel is located, it could be noisy at night time. Specially because the Spanish go to sleep very late and the streets will be full of people even at mid-night.

With 4 days in Madrid you’ll be able to cover all the main sights, you can also add another day to visit Toledo, a beautiful town outside Madrid.

If you’re an Art fan then Madrid is the right place for you. You’ll be amazed by the fascinating art collection in it’s museums.

If you’re a student, make sure you take your student card as you will be able to enter many of the sights for free or you will be getting great discounts. In general the discounts students get in Spain for visiting touristic attractions is so much more then any other place I’ve been to.

I’ll be writing on the top places to visit in Madrid very soon. So be sure to stay tuned for that. 😉

Seriously? You wrote an article on Madrid and the first thing you do is recommend other people to go to another city and not Madrid???? Maybe you shouldn’t have written this article at all in the first place if you don’t like the city! What’s the point when you are giving other people a bad opinion of Madrid anyway. Save us your time of the day and write about somewhere else and leave Madrid alone!

haha! So people are only allowed positive articles about one city?? I actually really enjoyed Madrid, but I made it clear that it’s definitely not my favourite Spanish city. I don’t really see what’s wrong with that. There are a ton of articles selling Madrid to travelers. You could always just go and read those. And I’ll keep writing what I want. 😉
